SL vs IND: Shubman Gill lauds Gautam Gambhir’s ‘intent’ and ‘communication’

India's new vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is, Shubman Gill, has lauded the new head coach Gautam Gambhir for his intent and communication ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Notably, India will take on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series beginning from Saturday, July 27 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele. Ahead of the series, Gill divulged the details of his who recently took charge of the team after Rahul Dravid whose tenure came to an end. Hailing Gambhir's game sense and clarity of thought, Gill said that within just two practice sessions his communication has been very clear and the former World Cup winner knows what he wants from each and every player. "We have had just two net sessions together, and this is the first time I am working with him. But whatever he has told me during these two sessions, his intent and communication have been very clear - he knows what he wants from which player, and what he thinks will work for each player," said in the press conference ahead of Sri Lanka series. Gill made his captaincy debut in the recent five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe where India emerged victorious by 4-1. The opening batter also notched up a couple of half centuries scoring 66 (49) and 58* (39) in the third and fourth T20I respectively. However, he was slammed by fans for demoting Abhishek Sharma down the order after his breathtaking hundred and making himself open the innings. Suryakumar and Gambhir are on the same page: Shubman Gill Meanwhile, Further speaking ahead, the 24-year-old revealed that Gambhir and the new T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav are on the same page which will yield good results on the field. "I think the line of thinking and mindset (of Suryakumar and Gambhir) are on the same page. I had played under Surya Bhai in South Africa too. Their understanding is similar and I think you'll get to see the effects on the field as well," he added.
