Delhi: Amidst the continuous big scores in T20 cricket, Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has raised questions about the pitches. He believes that due to flat pitch, small boundary and dew, it is becoming difficult for the bowlers to do anything. In such a situation, the batsmen are continuously getting the advantage, while the bowlers are getting fewer and fewer opportunities to showcase their skills.
This statement of Chahal has come after the second T20 match played between India and West Indies in Ranchi. In the match, West Indies achieved the target of 250 runs by losing 4 wickets with 9 balls remaining with the help of Shai Hope (102*) century.
While talking to Geostar, Yuzvendra Chahal said that in the current situation the difficulties for the bowlers have increased. After the ball gets old, the effect of dew starts and due to the small boundary, it becomes easier for the batsmen to play big shots.
Chahal said, 'Nothing happens for the bowlers on such pitches. When the ball becomes old, there is dew and the ball comes well on the bat, then the batsmen get the advantage. Apart from this, the boundaries of the grounds are also becoming smaller.
Referring to the increasing high scores in IPL, Chahal said that the Impact Player rule has also given additional advantage to the batsmen.
In this context, he said, 'Earlier there was no Impact Player rule, at that time 50 runs were scored in 6 overs and a score of 170-180 runs was considered challenging. But nowadays 70-80 runs are scored in the first 6 overs and from there the trend of the match starts being decided.
Chahal said that if the bowlers do not get help on the pitches, it will be very difficult for them to stop the batsmen. He sarcastically said that there is nothing for the bowlers on the pitch, so bowling machines should be installed there.
This comment of Chahal has once again sparked a debate on the benefits of batsmen and the challenges of bowlers in T20 cricket. Especially in IPL, big scores have been made on similar flat pitches. In such a situation, the question is arising whether along with making the matches exciting, there is a need to maintain a better balance for the bowlers as well.
