The second match of the T20 International series between India and the West Indies saw a torrential downpour of runs. The Caribbean team created history by achieving the mammoth target of 250 runs at the JSCA International Stadium. Following the match, Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed concern about the pitch and conditions in T20 cricket and advocated for an even contest between bat and ball.
In the match played at the JSCA Stadium Complex in Dhurwa, Ranchi, India batted first and scored 249 runs. In response, the West Indies successfully achieved the target of 250 runs, thanks to Shai Hope’s aggressive century. This is the second-highest run chase in T20 International cricket history. With this victory, the West Indies have made a comeback in the five-match series.
Speaking to reporters after the match, head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke openly about the pressure on the bowlers due to flat pitches and heavy dew. He clarified that bowlers should not be used as a mere means of leaking runs.
Gautam Gambhir admitted that handling the ball on heavy dew and a completely flat pitch was extremely challenging, but he refused to offer excuses for the loss. According to Gambhir, after the opposition conceded three wickets in the powerplay, the Indian team had to find a way to tighten the screws.
