Skipper Rishabh Pant wore a huge smile as he celebrated his 29th birthday on Sunday by lifting Irani Cup 2026. Rest of India beat current Ranji champions Jammu and Kashmir by 167 runs on day four of the game at the Sher-I-Kashmir on Sunday.
Right-arm seamer Mukesh Kumar was the star of the show as the 32-year-old eight wickets in the game including 6/33 during the second innings. 32-year-old pacer who last played for India in 2024 bowled his heart out to bowl out the hosts for just 111 runs.
Mukesh first dismissed J and K skipper Paras Dogra for a golden duck and then got the wicket of Shubham Pundir for nine runs. With this the home team went into lunch at 99 for the loss of three wickets till needing 179 runs.
Akash Deep, who is coming back from injury didn’t waste time as he got the wicket of Shubham Khajuria for 36, in the first ball after lunch. 29-year-old got his third wicket when had Sahil Lotra caught by Pant for a duck.
J and K batter Abdul Samad was out for 20 when he edged the ball behind to give Mukesh Choudhary his only wicket of the innings.
The left-arm seamer was the was the star with the ball for ROI in the first innings taking 5/78 from his 18 overs.Game was done and dusted in the 29th over, as Kumar took the last three wickets and celebrate a huge win. Bengal seamer first dismissed Abid Mushtaq for five when the southpaw gave room and saw his middle-stump flattened.
Fast bowler Umar Nazir Mir tried to heave the ball over the off-side but only managed to give Sarfaraz Khan an easy catch. The end came when Sunil Kumar got a brute of a short ball from Mukesh that took his glove and went to Shikhar Mohan.
Opening batter Qamran Iqbal started well scoring 32 with the bat which came off 39 balls with four boundaries and a six. The tall opening batter was out LBW to Akash when he was hit on his pads while shuffling to play the ball past the leg-side.
Earlier in the day, ROI started the day at 306 with a lead of 265 with overnight batter Smaran Ravichandran batting well. It did not take the hosts to wrap up the innings when Sunil got the wicket of Choudhary for 11 runs which came off 50.
Smaran was the last man out for 135 when he castled by the left-arm seamer in the fifth ball of the 100th over.
