Shubman Gill Slams 223 as India Complete Record 406-Run Chase Against West Indies

A stunning double century from Shubman Gill has along with Rohit Sharma’s century, has set up India’s record-breaking chase against West Indies.

Gill remained unbeaten on 223*, while Rohit Sharma added 101 in India’s 8-wicket win at Guwahati. With this win, India secured a 2-0 lead in the series and will be aiming for a clean sweep in the series.

Batting first, West Indies lost Keacy Carty for 9 runs, while John Campbell and Shai Hope added 96 in the powerplay.

The duo added 147 runs for the second wicket, with Campbell scoring 101 runs before being dismissed by Gurnoor Brar.

Amir Jangoo, who came to bat at No.4, joined Shai Hope as the duo went on to a 182-run partnership for the third wicket, where Shai Hope smashed a century.

However, Kuldeep Yadav bagged Hope’s wicket, dismissing him for 104 runs. On the other hand, Amir Jangoo smashed his century, setting up West Indies to post a massive total against the hosts.

With Chase’s 24 and Shamar Joseph’s 14* West Indies went on to score 405 runs in their 50 over innings.

Chasing the mammoth target, India’s Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored 92 runs in the powerplay. The duo forged a 255-run partnership for the first wicket where Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill completed their century.

Seales broke the partnership dismissing Rohit Sharma for 101 runs. Virat Kohli who came to bat got dismissed for 29 runs while Gill went on to score as India marched towards victory.

Shubman Gill went on to score 223 runs off 133 deliveries which included 26 fours and 8 sixes. He also become second player in ODIs to score multiple double century after Rohit Sharma.

He also brought his double century in 117 balls, the fastest ever to do it. With Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill at crease, India completed the chase in the 44th over.

Shubman Gill was named player of the match. Speaking on the post match presentation, Gill said, “I mean, I think every part of my body is cramping right now, and it was very hot in the afternoon. When we had about 13 overs, it was feeling like we have already fielded for 20-25 overs, the way they were batting. So great game, I think.”
