Delhi: Shubman Gill created history in the second ODI played between India and West Indies at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. While chasing the big target of 406 runs, the Indian captain scored the second double century of his ODI career. With this, Gill has become only the second batsman to score two or more double centuries in ODI cricket.

Before Gill (223*), only Rohit Sharma had achieved this feat.

Rohit has three double centuries in his name in ODI cricket. That means, now two batsmen from India have been included in this special list.

Gill scored a double century in 117 balls.

Shubman Gill took serious notice of the West Indies bowlers. He completed his double century in just 117 balls. This is the fastest double century in terms of balls in ODI cricket.

Gill has left Ishan Kishan behind in the list of fastest ODI double centuries. Ishaan had scored a double century in 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022.

Scored a double century for the first time in 2023

Shubman Gill had earlier scored his first double century in ODI cricket on 18 January 2023 against New Zealand in Hyderabad.

In that match, Gill played a brilliant inning of 208 runs in 149 balls.

Now after about three years, he has once again crossed the 200 mark. The special thing is that he has scored his second double century as captain and while chasing the big target of 406 runs.

Rohit and Gill together created havoc

West Indies had set a huge target of 406 runs for India. In reply, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave such a start to the Indian innings that the Caribbean bowlers came under complete pressure.

Rohit also scored a brilliant century. He played an inning of 101 runs. There was a partnership of 255 runs between the two openers, which helped India win by 8 wickets. Even after Rohit was out, Gill's bat did not stop and he completed his double century. Gill returned unbeaten after scoring 223 runs.
