Delhi: With the help of Shubman Gill's tremendous double century and Rohit Sharma's 35th century, the Indian cricket team defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in the second ODI. With this victory, Team India achieved an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. After batting first, West Indies made a record score of 405/7 with the help of 3 centuries. In the reply innings, the Indian team achieved the target at the loss of 2 wickets in just 43.3 overs.
John Campbell, Shai Hope and Aamir Jangu scored centuries for the West Indies team and thrashed the Indian bowlers. Debutant Aaqib Nabi gave 84 runs in 8.5 overs and returned without taking any wicket.
After this, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill also scored centuries. A total of 811 runs were scored in this match, which is the third highest match aggregate in ODI cricket. Also, this was the first match in ODI history in which a total of five batsmen scored centuries.
Shubman Gill broke many records while reaching his second ODI double century, but the start of his innings was nothing special.
After this Rohit Sharma opened his hands and gave a fast start to the team.After 10 overs, India's score was 92 runs without any wicket. After this Gill slowly started gaining momentum. He came forward and started playing shots against the spinners and hit two sixes in one over of Roston Chase.
After this, Gill completed his century in just 62 balls, leaving Rohit behind. India completed 200 runs in 21.1 overs, which was the team's fastest 200 in ODI.
West Indies got a chance to break the partnership, but the team could not capitalize on it. On the score of 84 runs, Casey Carty dropped the catch of Rohit Sharma on the ball of Vital Laws.
After this, 39 year old Rohit completed 12 thousand runs in ODI cricket. He became the third Indian to achieve this feat after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Rohit also completed his 35th ODI century in just 72 balls.
Jaden Seals got Rohit out LBW on a slow ball in the 27th over, but by then Rohit and Gill had made a partnership of 255 runs.
This was just three runs short of the record for India's highest ODI opening partnership, which is held by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.Even after Rohit's dismissal, India's pace did not slow down. Gill and Virat Kohli scored 25 runs in the next over of Seals. India completed 300 runs in 29.1 overs. This was the fastest 300 by any team in ODI cricket.
Kohli, the centurion of the previous match, could not do anything special in the second match and was out after scoring 29 runs in 19 balls.
His wicket went to Shamar Joseph.After this, Ruturaj Gaikwad worked to rotate the strike, while Gill continued scoring runs. He completed 150 runs in 89 balls. After this, Gill broke Ishan Kishan's record by completing his double century in 117 balls.
Earlier, West Indies' innings was started by Casey Carty, who was sent to open in place of injured Justin Greaves. Carty was out after scoring 9 runs in the fifth over. Naman Dheer caught him and Prasidh Krishna got the wicket. This was India's only wicket in the powerplay. After 10 overs, West Indies' score was 96/1.
After this Campbell completed his century in 68 balls. He hit 9 fours and 5 sixes. Campbell and Shai Hope added 110 runs in 79 balls for the second wicket. After this, Gurnoor Brar broke this partnership by dismissing Campbell.
After this Shai Hope and Aamir Jangu attacked the Indian bowlers. Both of them made a brilliant partnership of 182 runs in 131 balls for the third wicket. In difficult circumstances, Hope held one end, while Jagu scored runs quickly.
Hope, who came to bat at number-3, scored 104 runs in 94 balls. Whereas Jangu, after starting with 59 runs in 54 balls, increased his pace and completed his century in 70 balls.
This big partnership lasted till the last ball of the 40th over. Kuldeep Yadav got Hope caught by Nabi on the score of 329.
Just two balls after Hope's dismissal, Gurnoor got Rutherford caught out on the very first ball. After two overs, Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Aamir Jangu.
After this, Kuldeep Yadav completed his 200 wickets in ODI by getting Keemo Paul caught by Virat Kohli. He became the fastest Indian spinner to reach this milestone. From India, only Mohammed Shami has completed 200 wickets in less matches than him.
Roston Chase scored unbeaten 29 runs in 25 balls and took West Indies' score to 405. However, the team could not show much pace in the last 10 overs and could only add 76 runs during this period.
