Former Indian pace bowler Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as the chairman of the selection committee will end on 4th October 2026. The 48-year-old was due for an extension but decided to quit after taking charge in 2023.

Parthiv Patel, who is associated with the Gujarat Titans, is one of the contenders to take over from Agarkar. He is currently involved in commentary duties in the ongoing IND vs WI ODI series.

Aakash Chopra, who has become a seasoned commentator and analyst after his retirement, decided to have some fun at Parthiv’s expense. Parthiv was in the commentary box alongside Aakash and Abhishek Nayar.

“You (Parthiv) are still being discussed and spoken about.

Which is the role that suits you best? One that you enjoyed as a cricketer? Or the one to come?” Aakash Chopra said. This was in reference to the 41-year-old taking over the role as the chairman of selectors, although nothing has been confirmed by the BCCI.

Patel decided to dead-bat the full toss by Chopra and said, “I believe in staying in the present.

When I was playing cricket, it was taught to me to always focus on the present. For me, it has always been one ball at a time.” Not to be outdone, Aakash said, “So, you are telling me that you love commentary the most, is it? And Patel replied, “As of now, yes, because it is a lot more fun. “

Abhishek Nayar joins in the banter

It was then Nayar’s turn to face the friendly fire from Aakash Chopra: “So Abishek, we are good friends today.
