Shubman Gill is captaining India in the ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies. In the series opener on Sunday, September 27, he etched his name alongside Virat Kohli in an exclusive group of Indian cricketers.

Gill, who took over India's ODI captaincy in October 2025, became the fourth Indian skipper to register an ODI century against the West Indies. He follows in the footsteps of Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, and Kohli. Kohli achieved this feat seven times in 18 ODIs as captain against the Caribbean side. Dravid and Sehwag, meanwhile, scored one century each in 16 and four matches respectively while leading the team.

This was Gill's first ODI as captain against the West Indies, and he reached the three-figure mark off just 96 balls. He brought up his century by striking a boundary off the opening delivery of the 31st over, during India's chase of 296 runs.

With this knock, Gill also became only the third Indian captain after Dravid and Kohli to score hundreds in both ODIs and Tests against the West Indies. He had led India in two Tests against them in October 2025, scoring one century.

Kohli Reaches 15,000 ODI Runs
Gill and Kohli stitched together a 151-run partnership for the second wicket in the ongoing match.

Kohli also brought up a half-century in the fixture and, in doing so, completed 15,000 runs in ODI cricket. He needed 59 runs at the start of the innings and got there in just 46 balls. Kohli is now only the second player in world cricket to reach 15,000 ODI runs. Before him, only Sachin Tendulkar had crossed that mark in the 50-over format.
