Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi has been postponed for the day-night ODI match between India and Sri Lanka on 13th December 2026. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the stadium will not be able to host the day-night match due to renovation works.

The match initially planned to be held in Delhi was scheduled to start at 8:30 AM in the morning. With the postponement of the match in Delhi, the BCCI is yet to finalize the alternate venue for the Day-Night match.

What does the Arun Jaitley Stadium renovation involve?

The renovation of Arun Jaitley Stadium is concentrating on two aspects – completely relaying the pitches and outfield, as well as a modern drainage system.

The new facilities in the drainage system will enable play to start within half an hour of the halt caused by rain, thus bringing it closer to the standards of the premier international cricket grounds.

“We want to give the best to the men in blazers, who in turn will give the best for their fans who come out to cheer. The new pitches and outfield will be of the best standard. We will have the best drainage system, which will ensure that we can start within half an hour even if there is heavy rain.

It was a tough decision for us, as per the trend of most modern cricket stadiums. We are keeping in mind the interest of the paying public and the players,” a DDCA official said, Sportstar.

The initial work on the renovation of the stadium is expected to last for about four months, but with several delays, the stadium has become unavailable and left the December 13 ODI without a sure venue. The DDCA has not announced a definite completion date for the renovation work based on the progress of the work.

The tournament calendar of Delhi's domestic cricket is also affected by it. Ranji matches against Gujarat, Services and Maharashtra, in addition to women's and junior matches, are scheduled to shift from Arun Jaitley Stadium during the duration of the renovation.

Where will Delhi's domestic matches take place?

The DDCA has identified the Palam ground and Jamia Millia ground as substitutes for hosting the domestic fixtures, with the main stadium under renovation.

Delhi's Ranji campaign is scheduled to kick off against Gujarat at the Palam ground on October 18, 2026.

Jamia Millia Ground, on the other hand, is an experienced ground for first-class cricket, which last saw a Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Orissa in February 2024.

The two grounds will share hosting duties during the time when the main stadium in Arun Jaitley is under renovation, as the DDCA starts working on its redevelopment.
