Match number six in the Australian domestic ODI season saw New South Wales take on hosts Victoria at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Friday. The NSW side WON the game by 47 runs thanks to the Duckworth-Lewis method.

The 37-year-old Glenn Maxwell stole the show to get rid of NSW’s number 10 batter Jack Nisbet on the fifth ball of the 49th over.

That wicket also gave left-arm seam bowler Harry Hoekstra a well-deserved fifer, and he ended the day with figures of 5/42 from 7.5 overs.

Hoekstra bowled a short ball, and Nisbet pulled it to the deep leg-side boundary. Maxwell, stationed near the ropes, took the catch, but the momentum nearly took him over the line. He used his presence of mind, threw the ball back into the field and then came back to complete the catch.

The entire team congratulated Maxwell for the catch.

Maxwell also bowled ten overs, picked up the wicket of Ben Dwarshuis for two runs, and gave away just 39 runs.

For the visiting side, Nic Maddinson was the best batter, scoring 126 runs. His knock came off 127 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and six sixes. Scott Boland did well to take 3/46 with one maiden from his ten overs.

In reply, Matthew Short began well and scored 52-ball 46, while Blake Macdonald amassed 45-ball 46 runs. Nisbet had his revenge when he got the 2023 ODI World Cup star’s wicket for 12 runs, caught by Joe Calgan on the fifth ball of the 31st over. Jake Scott, who scored a quick 43 with the bat, came back to do well with the ball, claiming three wickets.

New South Wales lead the table with nine points from two games.

Victoria are fourth with four points from two games. Queensland are placed last, having lost both their games so far.

The right-handed batter scored 201 not out while batting on one leg during the 2023 World Cup game against Afghanistan in Mumbai.

His innings is regarded as one of the best in modern-day cricket. Aussie star retired from the fifty-over format in 2025 and is still part of the national T20I side. He played in the 2026 T20 World Cup as well.
