Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar is set to leave his position as the chief of the selection committee on 4th October. He will end a three-year stint that began in 2023 and was marked by tremendous success, especially in the white-ball formats, with two T20 World Cup titles and one Champions League.

Wasim Jaffer, who played with Agarkar in the national side and domestic cricket,said he wanted everyone to stay on the same page.

There were speculations that the former pacer was quitting because of BCCI’s stance on Rohit Sharma‘s future during the England tour in July.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, theex-Indian batter said, “It’s important for everyone to stay on the same page.

If one person starts to dictate terms with strong opinions, whether it is the captain, coach, or even the chairman of selectors, the need to balance everything arises. Our fans are emotional about the bigger stars, and I’m sure Ajit had thought about it for the betterment of Indian cricket.”

Jaffer added, “That’s why it was important for him to balance it out with all the parties involved, which also includes the captain of the team and the coach. If one feels that things aren’t going his way, itwould be better to part ways.

Maybe it was such a situation, but all these are just speculations.”

While speaking about Rohit’s aspirations to play the next ODI World Cup, the legendary batter said, “If he is still playing, it means Sharma is eyeing the next World Cup, and one needs his experience. I said the same thing about Surya as well, but he was removed right after the World Cup. It could have been handled better.”

Suryakumar Yadav was sacked as the captain of the team and also lost his spot just three months after winning the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Ex-Indian batter hopeful of Mohammed Shami’s return

During the course of his YouTube show, the 48-year-old former Mumbai skipper said that he wanted Mohammed Shami to be recalled to the side. Wasim also said that he wished that veteran pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar had played more international cricket.

“I am hoping to see Shami getting picked for New Zealand. If that doesn’t happen, then it is a clear case that the selectors have closed the door on him. Even in Bhuvi’s case, it is sad that a player who is performing well and is fit. He should have played more cricket, especially in the white-ball format.”
