The Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene will continue as the head coach of the Mumbai Indians for the upcoming IPL 2027 season.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) have made a key addition to their coaching setup ahead of the IPL 2027 season, appointing Zubin Bharucha as the franchise’s new Director of Performance.

The franchise appointed Bharucha on August 21, 2026, with the former Rajasthan Royals performance coach set to work closely with Mumbai Indians’ existing coaching and support staff.

The appointment of Bharucha adds another experienced figure to Mumbai Indians’ performance structure as the franchise prepares for the upcoming IPL campaign.

The coaching setup also includes Kieron Pollard as batting coach, Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey as bowling coaches, and Carl Hopkinson as fielding coach.

Mumbai Indians will now turn their attention towards squad planning and preparations for IPL 2027, with the franchise looking to build a strong campaign under Jayawardene’s leadership.

With the core coaching structure in place, the focus will now shift towards the team’s plans for the upcoming season and their preparations for IPL 2027.

IPL 2027 MI Head Coach

Former Sri Lankan cricketer and Coach Mahela Jayawardene is the head coach of the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2027 season. He was appointed as the head coach of the Mumbai Indians on October 13, 2024.

Mahela Jayawardene continues as Mumbai Indians’ head coach, having returned to the role in 2024 after previously leading the franchise from 2017 to 2022. Under his leadership, MI won three IPL titles in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

He also had experience as global head of performance (MI Global), overseeing coaching and scouting across MI’s franchise network across IPL, SA20 and ILT20.

IPL 2027 MI Batting Coach

Trinidadian cricketer and former Mumbai Indians cricketer Kieron Pollard is the current batting coach of the Mumbai Indians.

In November 2022, Kieron Pollard was appointed as the batting coach of the Mumbai Indians following his retirement from IPL. Apart from serving the Mumbai franchise in IPL, Pollard was appointed as the assistant coach of the England cricket team in December 2023 for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

IPL 2027 MI Bowling Coach

Lasith Malinga will continue as the bowling coach of the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2027 season.

Meanwhile, Paras Mhambrey has been appointed as the assistant bowling coach. In October 2024, former India seamer Paras Mhambrey, who had served as MI’s assistant coach previously, was appointed as MI’s bowling coach and will work alongside current bowling coach Lasith Malinga.

Earlier in February 2018, Malinga was appointed as the bowling mentor for the Mumbai Indians team while Shane Bond was the bowling coach for the side in the IPL 2018 season. For the IPL 2022 season, he was appointed as the fast bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals.

Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Malinga was named as the bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians in 2023.
