New Delhi: Amidst the constantly changing equations in the Indian cricket team, head coach Gautam Gambhir has made a big revelation regarding the selection of Sanju Samson. After Vaibhav Suryavanshi's consistently brilliant performance, he got a place in the senior team of the Indian team, but with this, a big selection crisis arose in front of Gambhir and captain Shreyas Iyer as to which player should be kept out if Vaibhav is given a chance in the final eleven.

In the two matches against Ireland, the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were trusted, but Sanju could not play big innings in both the matches. Even in the first match against England, his bat remained silent. After this, Vaibhav got a chance and played three matches against England, whereas Sanju got a chance in only two matches.

After this, when the team was announced for the T20 International series against Zimbabwe, Sanju Samson was dropped from the team. Now Gautam Gambhir has openly expressed his feelings regarding this decision.

Speaking to GeoStar, Gambhir said that keeping Sanju out was probably the most difficult decision of his two-year coaching tenure. He told that this was probably the only night in his entire tenure when he could not sleep properly. According to Gambhir, he himself had a clear discussion with Sanju regarding this decision. Vaibhav was in tremendous form at that time and the Indian team needed a fast run-scoring batsman in the top order, so this decision had to be taken keeping in mind the team combination.

The interesting thing is that due to the excellent form due to which Vaibhav got the chance to replace Sanju, despite the same form, now Vaibhav also has to wait for his turn.

Gambhir made it clear that the final eleven of the Indian team will not be decided on the basis of pressure from social media or external discussions. According to him, players who have been performing well continuously for a long time cannot be dropped just because a young player has suddenly come into great form. Gambhir also explained to Vaibhav that his form is excellent, but sometimes one has to wait for established players.

This means that the Indian team is not facing lack of talent at this time, but the challenge is to choose the right combination. Both experienced players like Sanju Samson and emerging stars like Vaibhav Suryavanshi have the potential to make a place in the team. In such a situation, the biggest responsibility before the head coach and captain is to give opportunity to the right player at the right time as per the circumstances and the need of the team.
