The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed Goa as the venue for the IPL 2027 Auction. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the auction will be held in mid-December.

With the auction date yet to be revealed, sources confirm that the dates have been finalised. However, Saikia hinted that the IPL 2027 auction could likely be held between December 14 and 16.

“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations – Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi last year – we are going to host it in Goa in December,” said Saikia.

Over the last three years, the auction was held in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi.

However, the BCCI decided to host the auction in India, as the Governing Council, in response to requests from a majority of the IPL franchises.

However, the mega auction next year is due; the auction may go overseas again. The BCCI‘s priority was finding a venue which was a five-star hotel that could accommodate over 100 guests, representing the large delegations of the 10 IPL franchises.

Presumably, they have found a suitable hotel in Goa.

The venue hosted the auction for the second season in 2009. The auction is famous for the record bids that two England stars – Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff attracted.

They were bought for USD 1.55 million each, the most expensive buys at the time, by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings, respectively.

Meanwhile, there have been movements between the franchises, where Rishabh Pant returned to Delhi Capitals while Kuldeep Yadav moved from DC to Lucknow Super Giants in a high-profile trade.

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are in the hunt for a captain after Ajinkya Rahane retired from international and Indian cricket.

The Mumbai Indians have brought in Zubin Bharucha as director of performance, while Zaheer Khan has been appointed as CSK head coach ahead of the IPL 2027.

The IPL governing council has not yet announced the retention deadline, which usually falls towards the end of November.
