CHESTER-LE-STREET, England (AP) — England legspinner Adil Rashid will miss the entire ODI cricket series against Sri Lanka because of a right-hand injury.

Rashid, a mainstay in England’s team for more than a decade, was initially forced out of the first match of the series — at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday — with the problem.

However, about an hour into the game, the England team released a statement saying Rashid would miss the other two matches as well.

Rehan Ahmed, a spinning allrounder and a protege of Rashid’s, was selected for the series opener in his place.

Rashid sustained the hand injury while fielding as England sealed a 3-0 win in the T20 series against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Meanwhile, England won the toss and opted to bat on Tuesday in the first of three one-day cricket internationals against Sri Lanka.

The teams are coming off a T20 series England won 3-0 last week.

England was without spinner Adil Rashid because of an injury to his bowling hand, so Rehan Ahmed fills in.

Sri Lanka picked left-arm spinner Sachindu Colombage for his first senior international match.
