Delhi: The first match of the three-match ODI series between England and Sri Lanka is being played at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis has returned from a hamstring injury, but the toss was not in his favor. England captain Harry Brook won the toss and decided to bat first.

Kusal Mendis could not play the Test series against India in August due to injury. He made a comeback for Sinhalese in the Major Clubs T20 tournament last week. After remaining completely fit during training, he got approval to play in the ODI series against England.

After losing the toss, Kusal Mendis said that he also wanted to bat first. He said that the Sri Lankan team is very balanced in ODI cricket.

28 year old Sachindu got international debut

Sri Lanka has made some changes in its team for the first ODI. Leg spinner Sachindu Kolombage has got a chance to make his international debut at the age of 28. Apart from this, Pawan Ratnayake, Janith Liyange and Asitha Fernando have also been included in the team.

Sri Lanka recently lost the T20 International series against England 0-3. Now the team has entered the field with the intention of making a better start in the ODI format.

Adil Rashid out of the series

England has also made changes in its team. Due to injury to Jacob Bethel, Tom Banton has got the responsibility of opening the innings with Ben Duckett.

At the same time, veteran spinner Adil Rashid is out of this series due to injury. He injured his right hand while fielding during the third T20 International on Saturday. In his place, Rehan Ahmed will play the role of England's main spinner.

After winning the toss, England captain Harry Brook said that the team wants to make a good start and score a big score so that pressure can be put on Sri Lanka in the second innings. He told that the pitch looks dry and the weather has also been good in summer.
