Indian batter Shafali Verma scored her maiden ton in T20I cricket in the second semi-final of the Asian Games 2026. The 22-year-old reached the three-figure mark in just 49 balls, which is the joint fourth-fastest in women’s cricket. She achieved the feat against Bangladesh on Sunday.

Shafali also became the third Indian woman cricketer to score a century in T20I cricket. Fellow opener Smriti Mandhana has two centuries while Harmanpreet Kaur has scored one hundred in T20I cricket.

For the record, West Indies legend Deandra Dottin holds the record for the fastest ton in WT20I, which came off 38 balls against South Africa in 2010.

Former Australian star Alyssa Healy is second on the list, having scored a century off 46 balls. Tammy Beaumont, Laura Wolvaardt and Pakistani batter Ayesha Zafar are third on the list, having scored their tons off 47 balls. Harmanpreet also took 49 balls to reach the three-figure mark against New Zealand in 2018.

This wasn’t the only record that Shafali managed to achieve on Sunday in Nisshin. She also became joint top scorer for most sixes hit in a single T20I.

She hit a total of nine sixes, which is the same number as Hayley Matthews and Dottin had hit in a single innings.

Shafali also took her sixes tally to 35 in the current calendar year. Chamari Athapaththu held the previous record, having hit 32 sixes in 2024, and has managed to achieve the milestone twice. Sophie Devine has also done it twice while Harmanpreet and Fatima Sana have achieved the feat once.

Shafali is just nine runs short of Wolvaardt’s record for most WT20I runs in a year.

She currently has 815 runs.

India women reach 195 in 20 overs

India opted to bat first after winning the toss, with Mandhana scoring 37 runs from mere 19 balls with five boundaries and two sixes. The 30-year-old also became the leading run-getter in WT20Is, going past Suzie Bates on Sunday.

Nahida Akter dismissed the batter against the run of play, with Sobhana Mostary taking the catch on the final ball of the powerplay. Sanjida Akter Meghala got rid of number three batter Kamalini for three runs.

Skipper Kaur added 94 runs for the third wicket with Verma, which came off 55 balls. Harmanpreet was dismissed for 40 by Rabeya Khan, while Richa Ghosh fell for just two runs. Shafali’s sensational hitting took the score to 195 for 4 in 20 overs.
