Delhi: The 95th annual general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to be held in Mumbai on Friday. In this, the issue of appointment of new member of the National Selection Committee will be important. The tenure of current chief selector Ajit Agarkar is ending on October 4. It is believed that he is not interested in extending his tenure. In such a situation, the board will have to search for a new selector in his place.

Two names in the race to become chief selector

The names of former Indian wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel and former spinner Pragyan Ojha are in discussion in the corridors of BCCI. Pragyan is currently a member of the National Selection Committee. Along with him, Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra and RP Singh are also part of the selection panel.

However, if Parthiv is appointed, it is not necessary that he will immediately get the responsibility of chief selector. According to the rules of the board, only the most senior member of the five-member selection committee is made the chairman, hence the seniority of the new member will play an important role in this decision.

Appointment process will start after the meeting

BCCI President Mithun Manhas, Vice President Rajeev Shukla and Secretary Devjit Saikia will inform the members about Agarkar's decision in the meeting. The board will invite applications for the post of chief selector after getting formal approval on Agarkar's decision not to take further action.

The applied candidates will be interviewed by a three-member Cricket Advisory Committee. This committee includes Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik. This committee has the responsibility of appointing national selectors.

What are the rules to become a selector?

As per BCCI rules, the candidate must have played at least seven Tests or 30 first-class matches. Apart from this, a player who has played 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches will also be eligible. To apply, it is necessary to have completed at least five years since retirement from cricket.
