His explosive innings of 108 runs in 34 balls and Sanju Samson’s half-century helped India defeat Afghanistan by a huge margin of 127 runs in the third T20I. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, India got off to a blistering start with Abhishek Sharma. He reached his half-century in just 16 balls and his century in 30 balls. Abhishek surpassed Rohit Sharma’s record of the fastest Indian T20I century, which came in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017. He hit 11 sixes and 9 fours in his 108-run innings.

After reaching his century, Abhishek celebrated by sitting on the pitch in a yoga pose. Photos of his yoga session with his mentor Yuvraj Singh in Italy had recently surfaced, and this celebration reflected his balance of composure and aggression on the field. Sanju Samson also played a crucial innings from the other end, completing 9,000 runs in his T20 career. India scored 100 runs in the six overs of the powerplay and posted a mammoth total of 221 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a mammoth target of 222, Afghanistan got off to a disastrous start. Spinner Axar Patel struck twice in the fourth over, dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sediqullah Atal in the same over. Jasprit Bumrah then added to the pressure by bowling Darwish Rasooli for a duck.

All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy shattered the Afghan middle order by taking three wickets in a single over. Ravi Bishnoi also took three wickets. The entire Afghan team was bundled out for just 94 runs in 14.1 overs. This is Afghanistan’s biggest defeat, by runs, in T20 history.
