Desk : Young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi did not get a chance to be included in the Indian playing-11 in the recently concluded three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan. Regarding this decision, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir made it clear that the team management is currently working on the team combination keeping the T20 World Cup in mind. According to Gambhir, Suryavanshi will have to wait for her turn.

Let us tell you that 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was in great form before this series.

In India's last T20 International series, he performed strongly against Zimbabwe and scored 151 runs in three matches and won the Player of the Series award. After this, runs were seen from his bat in Duleep Trophy also. However, against Afghanistan, the team management preferred Sanju Samson. Samson could not play a big innings in the first match of the series, but after this he strengthened his place by scoring half-centuries in two consecutive matches.

Gautam Gambhir clarified the team's thinking regarding the selection of Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

He said that Samson has proved his ability and no player can be dropped from the team on the basis of performance in just two-three matches. Gambhir also admitted that giving chance to Vaibhav Suryavanshi in place of Sanju Samson in the England series was one of the most difficult decisions of his coaching career.

Team's focus on T20 World Cup

According to Gambhir, the main goal of the Indian team is to prepare the right combination for the T20 World Cup. He says that decisions are being taken based on the current form of the player and the needs of the team.

Poor performance in any one series neither diminishes the player's potential nor can the entire team be assessed.

Vaibhav will have to wait

Gambhir did not express any doubt about the talent of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He said that the team knows how much potential the young batsman has, but if a player is consistently performing well then it is natural for him to get priority. Gambhir made it clear that Vaibhav will have to be patient for now. When he gets a chance, the team will try to move forward with him from a long-term perspective.

The Indian head coach also said that it is important to have competition among the players in the team. According to him, this competition in Indian cricket makes the team stronger. Whether a player is 15 years old or 30 years old, he has to wait for his opportunity.
