Team India dominated the third and final T20I against Afghanistan and secured a 127-run win in New Delhi. The Men in Blue, who batted first, posted 221, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 108 while Sanju Samson amassing a fifty.

With the ball, Ravi Bishnoi and Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up three wickets each. Meanwhile, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was not given a chance in the bilateral assignment, and the youngster has been told to wait for his chances by head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking to the media after the game, Gambhir was asked about Sooryavanshi’s absence. “From Vaibhav’s point of view, we had a clear conversation that he has to wait for chances.

We know the talent he has and what he can do. But someone (Sanju) who has done well over the years will be preferred over someone who has just got into the team, and when Vaibhav gets the chance, he will play for a long time,” Gautam Gambhir said.

“And that’s what Indian cricket is about. We want talent in the dressing room and also want competition, and that’s how cricket goes. Whether it is a 15-year-old or 30-year-old, they have to wait for their chances.”

India’s head coach praises Sanju Samson

The 31-year-old opening batter was ordinary in the series opener.

After scoring ten in the first match, the batter notched up 57 and 50 to finish the series with 117 runs, at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 180.

Gambhir praised Sanju Samson. “Sanju has shown what he is capable of, and someone doesn’t win the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup without talent. It was one of the toughest decisions of my coaching career to bench Samson during the England series.”

“On occasions you have to go with players’ form as well. I wanted to go back to the same combination that we had used during the World Cup because after a few failures they don’t become bad players.”

Shreyas Iyer will be pleased with Abhishek’s form, with the batter winning the Player of the Series against Afghanistan. The Men in Blue will play Japan next in a one-off T20 before commencing their Asian Games journey on 28th September.
