Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has hit back at Mohammed Shami for his distasteful comments for legendary Pakistan batter Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Notably, Shami recently commented on the baseless allegations of the former Pakistan player who alleged that Indian bowlers were doing ball-tampering during the T20 World Cup 2024.  of the Indian team as they were getting unusual help with the ball. Giving his take on those allegations on a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, Shami stated that such 'cartoongiri' (buffoonery) should stop and people shouldn't be made fools by such statements. The host of the show also mentioned that Pakistan cricket has been facing allegations of favouritism which prompted Shami to say that they should be more focused on selection. However, the comments didn't go down well with Butt who stated that Inzamam didn't get into the Pakistan team on the basis of favouritism but only due to his performance. Butt further said that Shami's comments were below the belt and he shouldn't have said such things. "Mohammed Shami's comments targeted Inzamam-ul-Haq. He targeted Inzamam by speaking about Pakistan picking their team based on personal relations, and I think this is wrong. This is wrong because if you look at Inzamam's record, he came into the Pakistan team on the basis of his performance. He was also dropped when he failed. Shami's remarks were below the belt and he shouldn't have said such things," Butt said on his Youtube Channel. Such things don't suit Mohammed Shami: Mohammed Shami Further speaking ahead, Butt also said that the controversy should've been avoided and Shami being a renowned bowler should've refrained from making such statements. "Yes, there was a controversy, which should've been avoided. A lot of people made statements, Inzamam also said something, and the topic was over. But to say things about selecting players just because they are relatives is a dirty hit. Such things don't suit Mohammed Shami. He is a renowned bowler, like how Inzamam was a renowned captain," Butt added.
