India, Sri Lanka to co-host Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

India and Sri Lanka will co-host the T20 World Cup 2026, according to media reports. While the entire cricketing fraternity is preparing for the upcoming 2024 edition of the mega event, the apex cricket body has already started to prepare for the next edition of the mega event.

The 2024 edition is set to be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in June. If reports are to be believed, the ICC in a meeting in Dubai earlier this week, confirmed India and Sri Lanka as the co-hosts for the 2026 edition. The qualification process for the next edition of the marquee event has also been completed. Just like the upcoming edition, the 2026 edition will also feature 20 teams. 12 teams qualify automatically The tournament will feature 12 automatic qualifiers while the remaining 8 teams will have to qualify through the regional qualifiers. For the 2024 edition as well, top 8 teams from the 2022 edition qualified for the mega event directly. Along with the 8 teams, the two-co hosts also went into the marquee event automatically. The remaining two automatic qualification places were taken by the best-ranked teams in the ICC Men's T20I team rankings. For the eight remaining spots, ICC's regional qualifiers were considered. Two teams from Africa, Asia, and Europe, along with one team each from the Americas and the East Asia-Pacific groups made it to the 2024 T20 World Cup. If India and Sri Lanka qualify in the top-8 teams list in 2024 edition, then six other teams qualify directly for the 2026 edition along with them. If they do not end the campaign in the top 8, then 8 teams will directly qualify for the mains and India and Sri Lanka being the hosts also qualify. Meanwhile, the 2024 edition of the showpiece event begins on June 2, with much-awaited India vs Pakistan fierce encounter to take place on June 9.
