New Delhi: Friday was a historic day for Nepal as they clinched their first Women's Asia Cup clash in as many as nine attempts after beating UAE comprehensively by six wickets in the tournament opener at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla.
Batting first, UAE scored 115/8 in the stipulated 20 overs while the Nepalese women took only 16.1 overs to reach the target for their historic maiden win. Samjhana Khadka hit the winning run for Nepal and proved to be the best batter in the match with an unbeaten score of 72 runs off just 45 deliveries. She smashed 11 boundaries in her knock which was also the highest score by a Nepal batter in the women's Asia Cup history. As soon as they clinched the contest, the Nepal players were left spellbound and celebrated passionately as this win meant a lot for them. Watch the video here
Earlier, Indu Barma's three wickets and one wicket each from Sabnam Rai, Kabita Joshi and Kritika Marasini helped Nepal restrict the UAE side for a modest total. For UAE, Khushi Sharma emerged as the top-scorer for the side with 36 runs while Kavisha Egodage made 22 runs. Rest of the batters failed to chip in for the side as they were unable to navigate through the disciplined Nepal bowling. Khadka's knock was enough for the Nepal side to take them through as tiny scores from other players helped them complete the task. Egodage clinched three wickets for UAE. Notably, Nepal, Pakistan, UAE, and India are all pooled into Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Bangladesh are in Group B in this competition.
