Sri Lankan cricketer shot dead in his house, the incident took place in front of his family, the attacker is absconding

Delhi: Former Sri Lankan cricket team player Dhammika Niroshan was shot dead by a miscreant on Tuesday night in his Ambalangoda house. This incident has plunged the cricket community and the whole of Sri Lanka into deep mourning. Local police said that an unknown assailant entered Niroshan's house and shot him when he was with his wife and two children.

The reason for the murder is not yet clear and the suspect is still absconding. Ambalangoda police are searching for the culprit and investigations into the case are ongoing.

Initial investigations have revealed that the attacker came with a 12 bore gun.

41-year-old Niroshan represented Sri Lanka at the Under-19 level and played his debut match against Singapore in 2000. He played Under-19 cricket for two years and also captained the team ten times. Niroshan was a right-arm fast bowler and right-handed batsman. In the 2002 Under-19 World Cup, he took 7 wickets in 5 innings at an average of 19.28.

After Under-19, Niroshan continued his cricketing journey in several domestic tournaments in Sri Lanka.

He also played for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and Galle Cricket Club. His family is in deep shock after his death.

Niroshan was also known as Jonty

Dhammika Niroshan, also known as Jonty, was born on 22 February 1983 in Galle. He played a total of 12 first class matches, in which he scored 269 runs and took 19 wickets. At the same time, in 8 List A matches, he scored 48 runs and took 5 wickets.

This tragic incident has left the Sri Lankan cricket community and Niroshan's fans in deep mourning.

The police are seriously investigating the matter and making every possible effort to catch the culprit. At present, the culprit is absconding.
