PSL Eliminator 1 Result: The PSL 2024 Eliminator 1 between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators finished with a comfortable win for Islamabad United over Quetta Gladiators by 39 runs at the National Stadium in Karachi on Friday (March 15).
Islamabad will face Peshawar on Saturday to reach the Finals in Eliminator 2. The chase never got going today as Quetta Gladiators had yet another collapse within the first six overs. Jason Roy, Saud Shakeel, Rossouw, and Khawaja Nafay failed and didn't even get into the double digits. Imad Wasim (3/12) bowled a splendid spell in the powerplay and grabbed Player of the Match for it. Naseem Shah (2/33) played a vital role as well. Quetta called it upon itself as they had two needless runouts of Nafay and Evans when they were building some momentum. Omair Yousuf (50 off 37 balls) was the highest run scorer for the Gladiators, while Hosein (31 off 18 balls) and Amir (23 off 14 balls) played nice cameos down the order. Nevertheless, it was too much to ask for, as they lost half of their side in the powerplay. After winning the toss, Islamabad United decided to bat as they came out to set the target for Quetta Gladiators. Islamabad had a decent powerplay as they scored 51 but lost Hales to Akeal Hosein in the sixth over. Then Agha Salman joined Guptill, and they put together a 51-run partnership. The duo went after Wasim Jr and Usman Tariq before Saud Shakeel broke the partnership. However, Shadab and Azam Khan played aggressive cameos and kept the scoreboard ticking, while Guptill held his end to get to a fifty. Quetta kept getting wickets at regular intervals, and later, Amir and Wasim Jr closed things out brilliantly in the death as they gave just 19 runs off the final overs, alongside five wickets to restrict Islamabad to 174-9 (20 overs). Quetta Gladiators made a solid comeback with the ball in the death overs but had another top-order failure as they came out to chase the target. Gladiators lost five wickets at the score of 23 within the powerplay. Though Omair Yousuf scored a fifty, Akeal Hosein played a few shots, Mohammad Amir entertained with a cameo there was no coming back for Quetta from the initial collapse.
