The Indian team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka this month, where a three-match T20 and an equal number of ODI series are to be played between the two teams. There will be different captains for two different formats in this series. Senior players will be seen making a comeback from this tour after the T20 World Cup 2024.
The names of two captains have been announced for the Sri Lanka tour and a 32-year-old player has been made the captain for the ODI series, while a 30-year-old player has been made the captain for the T20 series. This tour will start from July 27.
If we talk about the ODI series, then 32-year-old wicketkeeper batsman KL Rahul can get the captaincy of Team India in this series. If media reports are to be believed, he can be made the captain for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Rahul has captained the Indian team before and once again he can be given the captaincy of the team.
Rahul was not selected in the T20 World Cup team and he has not played any cricket since IPL 2024. However, now he can make a comeback in international cricket. So on this tour, Rahul will not be included in the T20 team because it seems that the selectors have now decided not to select KL in the shortest format of cricket.
If we talk about the T20 series against Sri Lanka, then 30-year-old veteran all-rounder Hardik Pandya can be given the captaincy. Pandya can be made the captain for this series.
Hardik was rested on the Zimbabwe tour and now he can be given a chance against Sri Lanka. However, he can be rested in the ODI series.
