Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi shared a video of himself practicing in the nets amid reports of misconduct. This comes during a shaky period for Pakistan cricket, following their early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024.

The T20 Champions of 2009 began the tournament with a stunning loss to the USA, followed by a close 6-run defeat against arch-rivals India. They failed to chase down a 120-run target, resulting in their exit.

Addressing the dismal outing, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sacked chief selector Wahab Riaz and fellow selection committee member Abdul Razzaq.

Despite the reports of rift in the Pakistan team and allegations of inappropriate behavior by Shaheen Afridi with the coaching staff, the left-arm seamer uploaded a post of himself in the nets with the caption “Rise Above.”

Shaheen finished as Pakistan’s joint second-highest wicket-taker with five wickets from four innings. He averaged 21 and maintained an economy rate of 6.56. Shaheen’s best outing came against Ireland, where he recorded figures of 2/11 in four overs.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, the PCB made a unpredictable decision by reappointing Babar Azam as the T20I captain two months before the event. The 29-year-old batter had left captaincy across formats after Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup.

Following Babar’s departure, Afridi had taken over the T20I captaincy, but his tenure did not get off to a memorable start, as Pakistan lost the away series against New Zealand 1-4 in January. In a surprising move, the PCB reinstated Babar as the T20I captain in March, a decision that appeared to have upset Afridi.

There are several issues that need to be resolved in the Pakistani team in light of multiple reports of turmoil among the national team as they prepare to host the Champions Trophy in 2025.
