New Delhi: Pakistan pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is in big trouble over his alleged misbehaviour with head coach Gary Kirsten as well as other members of the support staff during the the recently-concluded T20 World Cup as well as the Ireland-England tour before that.
According to multiple media reports, Shaheen behaved badly with Kirsten and Azhar Mahmood but no action was taken against him by the managers who had accompanied the team during the competitions. Maintaining discipline in team is the responsibility of the managers which is why it is being investigated why no action was taken against the pace bowler despite his alleged misbehaviour. Team coaches complain PCB Reports further suggest that the players in the Pakistan cricket team are also under probe after coaches complained about lobbying in the recent competitions. The team’s coaches have complained to the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman about the non-seriousness of players and disciplinary violations in recent tours. Meanwhile, Pakistan cricket which is going through a turmoil sacked former players Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from its selection committee in the wake of the side’s dismal campaign at the T20 World Cup in US and West Indies. Wahab and Razzaq were a part of a committee, which had no chairman and included the national team captain, head coach and a data analyst. Pakistan had a disastrous campaign in the showpiece event, where they other than losing to arch-rivals India also went down against hosts USA which triggered the criticism and dipped their morale in the tournament leading to an early exit. While there are a lot of things at stake for the Pakistan cricket team and the board, the appointment of new coaches raises some hope that things might change for the them in the future.
