West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph has stated that he wants to ruin James Anderson‘s farewell celebration when the two teams play their first Test match at Lord’s. The match, scheduled from July 10 to 14, will mark the final time Anderson steps onto the field.
In a statement to reporters, Joseph praised Anderson as an amazing player and a role model. Shamar described the England legend as ‘perfect’ due to his prolific wicket-taking record over the course of his illustrious career.
“He is an amazing bowler whom I have long admired for his exceptional skill at this level. His impressive wicket tally is a testament to his perfection on the field. Despite my deep respect for him, I hope to spoil his farewell,” Joseph claimed.
The 24-year old added that England is a great place to bowl quickly, therefore he is thrilled to be here.
“I’m delighted to be here. England is renowned for its quick bowling.”
Shamar also talked about his experiences of watching the game at Lord’s, saying he intends to perform strongly at the iconic stadium.
“The Ashes has featured some top fast bowlers, such as Jofra Archer and Mitchell Starc. Watching these players excel is inspiring, and it’s a goal of mine to one day perform at that level as well,” he added.
Shamar’s standout performances during the West Indies’ historic victory over Australia at the Gabba thrust him into the spotlight. Now, the pacer wants his team to carry that same energy and belief into their upcoming tour of England, determined to compete with the hosts.
“We haven’t lost any of our energy since the Australian tour. We approach this series believing that the West Indies can match up with England,” he continued.
West Indies are touring England for a three-match Test series in July.
