‘Always believed in my ability’: Abhishek Sharma opens up after scoring his maiden T20I century

New Delhi: The Men in Blue defeated Zimbabwe by 100 runs in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club in Harare on July 7, Sunday. Team India levelled the series after losing the first T20I by 13 runs on Saturday.
  Abhishek Sharma and captain Shubman Gill opened the batting for India. Muzarabani got the wicket of Shubman Gill in the second over but Gaikwad and Abhishek stitched a 137-run partnership for the second wicket. Gaikwad scored an unbeaten 77 runs off 47 balls with 11 boundaries and one maximum. Abhishek smashed his maiden T20I century, scoring 100 runs off 47 balls, his explosive knock was laced with seven boundaries and eight maximums. After the match, Abhishek said that it was his day and he had to take responsibility. He also said that he always believed in his ability and it was all about momentum for him. “I feel like if it’s your day, you express yourself. After the drop, I thought it was my day and had to take responsibility. Ruturaj helped me in keeping perspective. I always believe in my ability. It’s about momentum for me. If it’s in the arc, I believe I need to hit it over regardless of when it is” Abhishek said in the post-match presentation. He also talked about the team’s performance and said that it was great comeback after yesterday’s defeat and also thanked the coach and captain for the keeping confidence in him. “It was a good performance after the defeat yesterday. We didn’t have much time to lament. I felt that T20 is all about the momentum, and thought it was my day today. Special thanks to the coaches and captain for keeping confidence” Abhishek added. ‘Great to be back on the winning note’: Shubman Gill Indian captain Shubman Gill was happy after winning the match and praised Ruturaj and Abhishek for their brilliant innings. “Very happy, great to be back on the winning note again. With the way Abhishek and Rutu batted, it was not easy especially in the powerplay, with the ball moving around but Abhi and Rutu built the innings brilliantly. Yesterday, it was more about not being able to handle the pressure, it’s a young side and many of them are new to international exposure” Gill said.
