Following India‘s historic victory against South Africa in the T20 World Cup final in Barbados last Saturday, Rohit Sharma‘s trophy celebration video went viral on social media.

While some claimed Rohit perfectly mimicked Argentine football star Lionel Messi’s iconic celebration from the FIFA World Cup 2022, others argued it resembled more of a ‘Ric Flair strut’. But on Thursday, during Team India’s discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi,Kuldeep Yadav resolved the matter.

The video that went viral on social media showed Kuldeep, standing next to Rohit during the medal-presentation ceremony, telling the India skipper to celebrate like Lionel Messi did two years ago when Argentina won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Kuldeep even enacted Messi’s celebration to demonstrate it to Rohit.

The 37-year-old Rohit then attempted to replicate the celebration, which quickly went viral with comparisons to Messi. However, WWE legend Ric Flair claimed that Rohit’s celebration was actually taken from his own signature move. Flair himself recreated the celebration to prove his point to social media users.

During a Thursday morning meeting with the victorious Indian cricket team at his residence, Prime Minister Modi engaged in an hour-long discussion. At one point, he playfully chided bowler Kuldeep Yadav, asking “How dare you make the Indian captain dance?” Kuldeep was in splits and shared his chat with Rohit on the dance.

Kuldeep chuckled as the room erupted in laughter. “When Rohit suggested we do something to celebrate, I suggested an idea, but he didn’t follow my instructions.”

Rohit had said earlier in the meeting that he intended to dance his way onto the dais to win the World Cup trophy.

“After eagerly anticipating this moment for some time, the players decided to forgo the typical stage entrance and try something unique to make it memorable for us all,” said Rohit.

The PM then questioned if Yuzvendra Chahal had come up with the concept, which caused everyone to start laughing.

“It was Chahal and Kuldeep (Yadav), who came up with the idea,” Rohit said.
