Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has said that Team India's ICC T20 World Cup victory in 2024 is more special than the victory in 2007, because at that time he was playing as a player and this time he has won the title as a captain. It is worth noting that after winning the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in the final, the Men in Blue returned home on July 4.

“2007 was a different feeling. We started in the afternoon and it's evening now. I can't forget 2007 because it was my first World Cup. This one is a little more special because I was leading the team, so it's a very proud moment for me,” the 37-year-old said in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

He further added, “You can understand the excitement and it shows how much it means not just to us but to the whole country. It means a lot, so I am very happy that we could achieve something like this for them as well.”

Team India's wait for the ICC trophy under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma is over. India won the ICC T20 World Cup after 17 years by defeating South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 on 29 June.

In the match held in Barbados, Rohit and company registered a thrilling 7-run win against South Africa. After this, the team left for home from Barbados on 3 July by a private jet, where the World Champions reached New Delhi on 4 July.

A proud moment for players and fans

This is a very proud moment for the Indian team and fans, as Team India has ended the wait of a decade by winning the ICC trophy after 11 years. Earlier, the team in blue jersey had won the ICC Champions Trophy played in England in the year 2013. During this time, the captain of India was the great wicketkeeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
