Shubman Gill will lead the team while BCCI has named many players for their first national call-up. Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, Harshit Rana and Tushar Deshpande are among the players who may make their India debut in the series.
BCCI also mentioned that VVS Laxman will be the head coach for the series.
Although the majority of the India squad has departed for Zimbabwe, captain Shubman Gill is yet to reach the African country. In the released photos of the players by BCCI, Gill was not spotted which asked the question about his whereabouts. And now reports have confirmed that the India captain will join the team separately.
IND vs ZIM: Why hasn't Shubman Gill travelled with the India Squad?
Subman Gill hasn't joined the Indian team in Zimbabwe because he is currently in the USA.
The batter was part of the reserve team for India for the T20 World Cup, and is currently in the USA. He will take a flight from New York straight to Zimbabwe's capital Harare and will join the team on his own. Along with Shubman Gill, several other players are currently stuck in Barbados and will join the team in Zimbabwe.
Travelling reserves Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh are part of the Zimbabwe squad, while Shivam Dube, who played all of India's World Cup matches, is also going to be a part of the series.
Rohit Sharma and the entire World Cup-winning team are currently in Bridgetown but are expected to return to the country on Wednesday (July 3) evening.
Although the team was poised to come to Mumbai initially, they will land in New Delhi via a chartered flight.
