India won the title by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024. As soon as David Miller was out in the last over for South Africa in the final, his team's hopes of victory also ended. After this, news started coming on social media that Miller has retired after the defeat in the final. Now Miller has called the news of his retirement a rumour and said that he will continue to represent the team in this format.

Miller wrote on his Instagram story, calling the news of retirement a rumour, “Contrary to some reports, I have not retired from T20 International cricket. I will be available to play for the Proteas. The best is yet to come.” Miller scored 21 runs in 17 balls in the final with the help of a four and a six. Suryakumar Yadav took a wonderful catch near the boundary which changed the match.

On the defeat in the final, Miller said, “I am very sad!! It is very difficult to swallow what happened two days ago. Words cannot describe how I feel. One thing I know is how proud I am of this unit. This journey has been amazing, with ups and downs throughout the month. We have suffered, but I know that this team has the ability to bounce back and will continue to raise its level.”

India won the toss in the final and batted first and scored 176 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli scored 76(59) and Axar Patel scored 47(31) runs for the team. Keshav Maharaj took the highest number of wickets for South Africa by taking 2 wickets. Chasing the target, South Africa could score only 169 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen scored the highest number of runs for the team, 52(27). Apart from him, Quinton de Kock scored 39(31) and Tristan Stubbs scored 31(21). Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for India. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh got 2-2 wickets.
