The T20 World Cup final defeat to India, according to a “gutted” David Miller, was a devastating setback, but the daring batsman was certain that the tenacious South African side will keep pushing limits in spite of their suffering.

The Proteas, who had successfully escaped the unwelcome reputation of being “chokers,” advanced undefeated into their first-ever T20 World Cup final.

They lost to India by seven runs in the summit match, however, as they struggled.

“I’m devastated! It was a very difficult pill to swallow in light of what happened two days ago. There are no words to express how I feel. Late on Monday night, Miller shared an Instagram story expressing her pride in this team.

The Proteas had an incredible run leading up to the final, winning close games to establish themselves as the favorites.

“Over the whole month, there were highs and lows on this amazing adventure. We have suffered, but I have faith that this group will persevere and keep setting the standard higher,” he added.

South Africa needed 30 runs in as many balls, and it seemed they were headed for a historic victory. But the Indian bowlers, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, produced an incredible comeback, taking Heinrich Klaasen’s crucial wicket before Marco Jansen did.

Even with Miller at the wicket and 16 required from the last over, the Proteas were not giving up.

However, Suryakumar Yadav’s amazing catch at the boundary terminated Miller’s innings and dashed South Africa’s chances of victory.

After seven eliminations from the semifinals of ICC global competitions, it was the closest South Africa has ever been to winning a championship.
