A storm warning has left Team India, captained by Rohit Sharma, stuck in Barbados after their victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Men in Blue defeated South Africa by seven runs in Barbados to win the coveted T20 World Cup for the second time.
The airport has been closed in anticipation of Hurricane Beryl, which is expected to sweep across Barbados on Sunday night local time and keep the Men in Blue in the Hilton Hotel.
The storm has forced the city to implement a curfew. The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, told reporters that they are “stuck” in Barbados and would consider the felicitation when their flight arrangements are finalized.
“We’re locked here too, just like you. We would consider the felicitation when the trip arrangements are finalized,” Shah was cited by ESPNcricinfo.
In summary, India won the toss and chose to bat first in the event final. India was down 34/3 when they were hit by a counterattacking partnership of 72 runs between Axar Patel (47 in 31 balls, including four sixes and one four) and Virat (76).
India reached 176/7 in their 20 overs thanks to a 57-run partnership between Virat and Shivam Dube (27 in 16 balls, three fours, and a six).Anrich Nortje (2/26) and Keshav Maharaj (2/23) were South Africa’s best bowlers. Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen both claimed a wicket.
Proteas was reduced to 12/2 in the chase for 177 runs, but a 58-run stand between Quinton de Kock (39 in 31 balls, four boundaries and a six) and Tristan Stubbs (31 in 21 balls, three fours and a six) got South Africa back into the contest.
Heinrich Klaasen’s fifty-two (in 27 balls, with two fours and five sixes) almost put India out of the match. Nevertheless, in the last overs, Arshdeep Singh (2/18), Jasprit Bumrah (2/20), and Hardik (3/20) produced a magnificent comeback, limiting South Africa to 169/8 in their 20 overs.Virat’s effort earned him the title of “Player of the Match.” India’s wait for an ICC trophy is now over as they won their first one since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
