In the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India defeated South Africa by 7 runs and won the title. This was Rahul Dravid's last assignment as head coach, which he ended with a win. After this victory, Dravid said that India will win many trophies in the next 5-6 years. India won the trophy after a long wait of 11 years.

Dravid said, “The Indian cricket team has great talent. Their energy and confidence is at another level right now. In the coming times, in the next 5-6 years, India will win so many trophies. It was a journey of 2 years. The construction of this team and the kind of skills we wanted, the kind of players we wanted. The discussion started when I started 2021 and it is not just the work of this World Cup, it feels like a 2-year journey.”

The head coach further added, “As a player, I was not lucky enough to win the trophy but I gave my best. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to coach a team, I was lucky that this group of boys made it possible for me to be able to win this trophy. It's a great feeling, it's not like I was aiming for some redemption, it was the work I was doing…it's been a great journey.”

In the final match, India batted first and scored 176 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Virat Kohli scored 76 (59) and Axar Patel scored 47 (31) runs for the team. Chasing the target, South Africa could score only 169 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Hardik Pandya took the maximum 3 wickets from India's side. Jaspreet Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took 2-2 wickets each. Axar Patel managed to take one wicket.
