Afghanistan batsmen failed to make a mark in the do-or-die match of the Super 8 round against Bangladesh. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put together another half-century partnership but both scored very slowly. Both added only 59 runs for the first wicket in 10.4 overs.

Gurbaz was under a lot of pressure in the middle overs due to playing too many dot balls. He was seen struggling and due to this there was confusion with Azmatullah Umarzai while running between the wickets. Twice both the players were seen running at the same end, but still the Bangladeshi player failed to make a runout.

This incident happened in the 16th over of the innings, Mustafizur Rahman bowled a slow back of length ball outside the off stump. Gurbaz played a shot on point fielder Rishad Hussain and after stopping the ball, his hands slipped. Gurbaz ran for the run but then started coming back, but Umarzai was running. Both were running towards the striker's end and Rishad threw towards the wicketkeeper which did not hit the wicket. After this, both ran towards the non-striker's end, but Umarzai stopped and came back, Bangladesh also had a chance of runout at the other end, which they missed.

Shakib Al Hasan also looked very angry after seeing the fielding of the Bangladeshi players. Rishhad threw at the wrong end, while Mustafizur was standing at the non-striker's end to catch the ball.

However, Umarzai could not take advantage of the opportunity and was out on the fifth ball of this over. He scored 10 runs in 12 balls. After that, in the very next over, Rishhad dismissed Gurbaz and showed him the way to the pavilion.
