When Ravi Shastri's tenure ended in 2021, BCCI President and Dravid's close friend Sourav Ganguly persuaded him a lot.

Dravid was the director of the National Cricket Academy till then and used to coach the Under-19 team. However, he agreed to Ganguly and became the head coach of Team India.
