When India plays South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday, skipper Rohit Sharma will be aiming for two victories. The leadoff hitter needs only six more runs to tie Virat Kohli’s record of 1216 runs as the tournament’s greatest run scorer.

After scoring 248 more runs in the most recent edition, Rohit now has 1,211 runs in the T20 World Cups. 12 of his half-centuries and 100 were destroyed while he participated in every edition of the main event.

In addition to reaching the batting milestone, Rohit wants to follow in the footsteps of MS Dhoni and become the second Indian skipper to win the T20 World Cup.

He was unable to do it in the ODI World Cup final of the previous year.

After scoring two consecutive fifties in the pivotal matches against Australia and the reigning champions, England, respectively, the 37-year-old batter is in incredible form. In addition, he has scored the third-most runs in the event, behind only the leaders, Rahmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan (281 runs) and Travis Head of Australia (255 runs).

India will compete in their third straight ICC final in over 13 months under Rohit’s direction. Earlier in the year, India fell to Australia in both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup final.

After winning the Champions Trophy for the last time in 2013, India now has the opportunity to snap their more than 11-year ICC trophy drought.

Later in the day, Barbados will host South Africa and India at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown to determine the champion of the T20 World Cup.
