After winning the Champions Trophy in 2013, the Indian team has suffered heartache and sorrow for 11 years. The team faces tough competition in South Africa as they advance to the finals of an ICC competition once again.
Renuka Dua, a former cricket player for India’s women, talked exclusively with IANS before the much-awaited match in the 2024 T20 World Cup final and expressed her opinions on it.
Excerpts from the T20 World Cup final conversation with Renuka Dua:
What are your impressions of India’s performance in this tournament?
A: Let me start by saying that the team is playing very well under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, and if we keep up this pace, we will undoubtedly win the cup.
All I would want to add is that the opposition side would be under a lot of strain if our opening combination stayed at the crease for the first few overs.Q. South Africa is likewise undefeated in the competition. How would you advise against playing with such a team?
A: We’ve played very well; I think the one area where South Africa wins is in fielding, so we’ll need to take risky singles and go for loose balls. Without a doubt, our squad is superior to South Africa’s.
What is your assessment of Rohit Sharma’s time as captain of India?
A: As captain, Rohit Sharma has consistently performed well. In the ODI World Cup, we made it to the final, but bad luck did not favor us. We are hoping and praying that India will win the cup this time around since we have gone undefeated throughout the competition once again.
