Eternal splendor is one step closer, but further away. India has won six games in an unblemished campaign, cruising to the 2024 T20 World Cup finals in an overwhelming manner. And leading the charge has been captain Rohit Sharma, who has earned the admiration of former Indian cricket player Surinder Khanna, who feels that Team India will triumph in the World Cup with the “cool skipper.”

Khanna discussed India’s World Cup experience in an exclusive interview with IANS, reiterating his confidence in captain Rohit Sharma to finish the job and win the country’s first ICC championship since 2013.

“Our team’s progress to the final is very amazing. They had a fantastic performance in the semifinals against the reigning winners, England. Thus, I am very pleased for the group as well as for South Africa,” Khanna said.

One cannot ignore the Proteas, who have also mounted an unbeaten campaign so far, despite India’s impressive success. Khanna said that India has to understand this and not undervalue their resistance.

“You cannot rest on your prior successes. India has performed well so far. They have merits.

However, South Africa has also not lost. They are accompanied by skilled bowlers. You must not underestimate your opponents,” Khanna said.

“Everyone was rooting for Afghanistan, and the Proteas bowlers’ 56-run finish against the Rashid Khan-led team demonstrated South Africa’s potential threat.” Although I’m Indian and I want India to win, our opponent is equally formidable.

However, India can rely on their new “cool” captain, Rohit Sharma, to win the game no matter who their opponents are.

They will need Rohit to lead the way once again to clinch the deal.

Rohit has himself regained his form in the last two matches at bat, making a scorching 92 against Australia and 57 against England in the semi-final.

“I like Rohit. His captaincy is attested to in his records. His management of the team is just remarkable. Although he has the excellent opinion that “class is permanent and form is temporary,” certain players are not doing well. He is the captain of all three versions because of this. If India wins the World Cup under him, it would be absolutely fantastic,” Khanna remarked.
