The Indian team is currently leading the ICC T20 World Cup without a loss. Following their victories against formidable opponents, including Australia and Pakistan, in the league and Super 8 stages, Rohit Sharma and his team maintained their supremacy in the semi-final. India advanced to the final after defeating England by 68 runs, mostly due to an impressive display by the bowlers. The Men in Blue have previously participated in two World Cup finals for T20. They won their first championship in the 2007 tournament after defeating Pakistan, their bitter rivals. Sri Lanka defeated India in the 2014 T20 World Cup final.

The summit matchup between South Africa and India will take place this time on June 29 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Let’s examine India’s performance so far in the 2024 T20 World Cup as they prepare to compete in their second ICC final in less than seven months:

India was grouped with co-hosts the United States, Pakistan, Canada, and Ireland in Group A. The Men in Blue defeated Ireland by eight wickets to start the season. India played the following two league matches in New York, where pacer Jasprit Bumrah was at his devastating best.

They won a low-scoring match against Pakistan by six wickets before defeating the USA by seven wickets. India was supposed to play Canada as the last game of the league stage. However, the unceasing rain in Florida caused the Group A match to be canceled.

Super 8s
India participated in the Super 8 stage, which was held on the Caribbean islands, up against Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia. The two Asian teams were easily defeated by Rohit Sharma and company in the first two games, which they won by 47 and 50 runs, respectively.

India batted first in the most recent game against Australia and amassed 205 runs thanks to a scorching 92-run innings that included seven boundaries and eight sixes from Rohit Sharma.

In St Lucia, Indian bowlers once again stole the show as they comfortably defeated the Australians by 181 runs to guarantee their spot in the semi-finals.

Semi-Final Rain interrupted parts of India’s first-round knockout match in Guyana. Jos Buttler, the captain of England, won the toss and chose to send the opposition to bat first. During the powerplay, India lost the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli. After that, Rohit Sharma teamed up with Suryakumar Yadav, and the two combined to bring the innings back with a stand of 73 runs.

With 57 from 39 balls, the Indian skipper reached his second half-century in a row. Surya too had several outstanding strokes, but he fell three runs short of the fifty. All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya made significant contributions, but India was defeated by 171 runs.

When it came time to defend, the Indian pacers had some trouble in the first few overs. At that point, Axar Patel entered the fray. With his first ball, the all-rounder with spin bowling dismissed Jos Buttler.

No other England hitter was able to hold on long after the skipper was removed from the game. England were all out at 103 runs in 16.4 overs after Axar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumra claimed three wickets each.
