Most runs as India’s captain in international cricket matches

The 37-year-old has 19,069 runs overall in a variety of categories. To his credit, he has 48 centuries and 104 half-centuries.

In international history, Australia’s legendary Ricky Ponting now holds the record for most runs scored as captain.

In 324 games while serving as captain, he amassed 15440 runs, 41 hundreds, and 88 half-centuries.

He is followed in second place on this list by Graeme Smith of South Africa, who has 14878 runs from 286 matches, 33 hundreds, and 77 fifties.

With 12883 runs from 213 matches, including 41 hundreds and 58 half-centuries, Indian batsman Virat Kohli rounds out the top three.

Only six players in the history of international cricket, including Stephen Fleming, MS Dhoni, Allan Border, Smith, Kohli, and Ponting, have amassed 10,000 or more runs while captaining their team.

During an ODI against Ireland in June 2007, Rohit made his debut on the international scene. With his 264 against Sri Lanka, the greatest individual score in the history of the game, he is also the first batter in ODI history to have achieved three double-centuries.

He is now guiding India for the second time in the game as captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup. When India advanced to the tournament’s semifinal in 2022, he served as captain.

In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rohit captained India as well.

They advanced undefeated to the final before falling to Australia. In addition, he guided India to the runner-up position in the ICC World Test Championship final the previous year.
