Ajinkya Rahane signed by Leicestershire County Cricket Club: Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane has signed for Leicestershire to play in the second half of the County Championship 2024.
He will also be available for selection in the club's One-Day Cup campaign as well as five County Championship matches.36-year-old Rahane had agreed to join Leicestershire last year, but after that he was included in India's Test team for the World Test Championship final.
After this, he was also selected in the Test team squad for the West Indies tour and due to this Rahane could not be a part of the County Championship last year.Announcing Rahane's signing, Leicestershire's Director of Cricket Claude Henderson said, “We are thrilled to welcome a player of Ajinkya's quality to Leicestershire. It was unfortunate that Ajinkya's schedule didn't work out well with our schedule last year, but it is a great achievement for us to have his services for the final phase of this season.”
He further said that he has a lot of experience. His run-scoring ability will be very beneficial for the team. Ajinkya's arrival will also give our batsmen a great opportunity to learn from one of the best players of the game.
Rahane is also very happy to join the defending champions of the One-Day Cup and speaking in this context, he said, I am very excited to get another chance to join Leicestershire. I have built a strong rapport with Claude Henderson and Alphonso Thomas (coach) and I am looking forward to playing for the club this season.
I followed the team's results last year and was very impressed with what I saw. I am looking forward to contributing to more success for the club this season while enjoying my cricket. It is worth noting that Rahane will join the club in mid-July and will replace South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who is likely to go on the international tour.
