Sri Lanka: After the resignation of Sri Lanka cricket team's assistant coach Mahela Jayawardene, now Sri Lanka's head coach Chris Silverwood has also resigned from the post of head coach. Chris Silverwood has resigned from the post of coach citing personal reasons. Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced this on 27 June. Earlier, former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene also resigned from the post of Consultant Coach after the poor performance of the Sri Lankan cricket team.

After the resignation of Chris Silverwood, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board can appoint former head coach of the Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri as the new head coach. Ravi Shastri has worked as the head coach of Team India from 2017 to 2021. Prior to this, he has worked as the director of the Indian cricket team. In such a situation, after the resignation of Chris Silverwood, Sri Lanka can appoint Ravi Shastri as the head coach of their cricket team.

During Ravi Shastri's tenure, Team India made it to the finals in the first tournament of the Test Championship, where the team had to face defeat against New Zealand. Along with this, Team India reached the semi-finals in the 2019 ODI World Cup. At the same time, during Ravi Shastri's coaching tenure, Team India became the first Asian team to defeat Australia in a Test series in its home. After this, in 2021, Team India repeated this feat once again. During Shastri's tenure, Team India played a total of 46 Test matches in which Team India won 28 matches.

Sri Lanka's performance during Chris Silverwood's tenure

Before joining the Sri Lankan cricket team as head coach, Chris Silverwood was associated with the England cricket team. As soon as his tenure with England ends in April 2022, Chris will join the Sri Lankan cricket team. During his tenure, Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup title in 2022 and defeated the Australian cricket team 3-2 in the five-match home ODI series. At the same time, he led the Sri Lankan team to the finals of the Asia Cup 2023.
