Kapil Dev, the first captain of India to win a World Cup, said on Thursday that teamwork rather than individual skill would determine if Rohit Sharma’s squad would win the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and break their trophy drought of more than ten years.

India hopes to go to the finals, where South Africa is waiting after destroying Afghanistan, by facing England in the tournament’s quarterfinal later on Thursday.

Why limit the conversation to only Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma? Everyone is involved in some way. In an exclusive interview with PTI Videos, Kapil said, “Their job is to win the tournament.”

“A strange person can emerge victorious in a match, but teamwork is required to win a tournament.” You are going to lose it if we are going to rely on Bumrah or Arshdeep, he said.

“Let’s discuss the squad. Instead of focusing on the odd player, it offers you a better viewpoint.

Yes, the primary player is present, and we may avoid him. However, winning the World Cup requires everyone to pitch in,” he said.

Kapil made the point that there were other players on his 1983 World Cup-winning squad besides him.

“Mohinder Amarnath, Kirti Azad, Yashpal Sharma, and Roger Binny all produced performances that won matches. He noted that relying too much on a single player will prevent you from winning tournaments more often.

Ahead of India’s semi-final match against England, he wished the Men in Blue success and hoped they would win the trophy.

The legendary all-rounder wished the Indian players luck and added, “I hope they keep playing like that. They shouldn’t have a bad day and be out of the tournament (like) what happened last time in the 50 overs World Cup.”

They are having fun and playing well. Bravo to them. I wish them well. I hope them have the best of success and happiness,” he said.

The 65-year-old, who was chosen as the Professional Golf Tour of India’s president on Wednesday, expressed his pride at India being seen as title contenders each time they participate in an international competition.

“It is a good thing that we may believe that we can prevail. You weren’t thinking twenty years ago. It’s critical that India enters every tournament as the favorite. That is a significant matter.

“We never gave it any consideration. That should be sufficient to inspire a child to start playing the sport. He emphasized, “I am extremely thrilled to see where Indian cricket has achieved incredibly well.

With 11 wickets in the competition so far, Bumrah has been India’s standout player, and Kapil praised him for it.

“I am a thousand times inferior to Bumrah.” We are not quite as good as these little lads. Our experience was greater. They are superior. They are excellent. Excellent. They are more physically fit. They work much harder than they do. They’re amazing,” he said.

But he downplayed the importance of being a captain.

“Anyone can be a captain.” Everyone may be a captain, even Hardik, Virat, and Rohit. The bowler must perform when the ball is given to them. Yes, the captain is there to assist you, but it doesn’t mean that he isn’t a good captain if you lose.
