Afghanistan has made it to the semi-finals by defeating Bangladesh in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. On Tuesday, the two teams clashed at St. Vincent's ground, in which the Rashid Khan-led team looked in great form. With this, India secured a ticket to the semi-finals for the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup. But now the Afghanistan team seems to be in trouble. After winning the AFG vs BAN match, the team (Afghanistan) has suffered a major setback.

After reaching the semi-finals, Afghanistan faced trouble

  • The last match of the Super Eight of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was played between Afghanistan and Bangladesh on the morning of 25 June as per Indian time.
The two teams faced each other in St. Vincent, in which the Bangladesh team had to face a close defeat by 8 runs.
  • The team led by Rashid Khan won the match by bowling brilliantly. However, now a mountain of troubles seems to have fallen on the Afghanistan team. The AFG vs BAN match was stopped twice due to intermittent rain.
  • When the 12th over of Bangladesh's innings was going on, rain again became the villain and the match had to be stopped. During this time, Bangladesh was two runs behind the target as per DLS rule.

The team may be banned

  • In such a situation, Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott was seen making gestures from outside the field, which made it seem as if he was asking the players to slow down the game.
  • So that if the match has to be cancelled in the middle, the Afghan team (Afghanistan) can win the Duckworth Lewis test and get a ticket to the semi-finals.
The very next moment after Jonathan Trott's signal, the strong player Gulbadin Naib fell to the ground holding his leg.
  • Looking at him, it seemed that he was in unbearable pain.
So the physio came on the field and he was taken out of the field. Najibullah Zadran came into the match as his substitute player.
  • However, Gulbadin Naib returned to the field after two overs and took the wicket of Taskin Ahmed. In such a situation, Gulbadin Naib's pain is being called a drama. At the same time, some fans demanded a ban on the Afghanistan team.

Action can also be taken against captain and umpire

  • According to ICC rules, if a batsman or bowler tries to disrupt the match in any way, it is a punishable offence.
In such a situation, if ICC investigates this matter, Gulbadin Naib can be found guilty and action will be taken against him.
  • Its wrath will fall on both the umpire and the captain. Because if a fielder tries to waste time in the match, action can be taken against the umpire or the captain as well. If the match ended, strict action could have been taken against the team.
  • Therefore, there are speculations that due to this act of Gulbadin Naib, Afghanistan team may be banned. But till now no investigation has been done on this by the ICC nor has any update been received related to it.
